Fauve Project
Ever since I first layed eyes on a Matisse painting, I was enamored for life. As a very young girl, knowing my obsession, my parents would buy me books on Matisse and enrolled me in an art school. Since then, I have dived into every work of art the Fauve's produced via books, magazines, and museum trips. Applying similar techniques to my work, I have produced hundreds of works in the style inspired by the Fauves. Fauvism, translated from French, as beastly or wild animal, is the style of art given to the group of artists such as Matisse and Derain. It is said, that the term fauve, was coined by the crowd's reaction that attended the exhibits- referring to the beastly look of the paintings which portrayed works in bright vivid colors and highly expressive bold lines. Although the crowd of the time, considered it beastly, the population has clearly fallen in love since then. The works to me, are held in high regard and continue to inspire me and provide a sense of peace and serenity. Below are my studies and full works of art. Very few are still available.
