Painting based off of one of Matisse's black and white sketches. I have "finished" it and made it into a large colorful work with a few changes. In this painting, I wanted her to study mathematics. I had many years of pure mathematics under my belt with a 4.0 in my graduate studies - only to work in the software industry to be asked questions like "Did your husband help you with that" and many many microaggressions, passed up for opportunities based off assumptions, and plainly ignored many times - not taken seriously.  Even harrassed. Hence, I have made this painting with a very vintage dress and hair tied as ladies did back then. I often wonder, why I studied so hard or work so hard. Thank goodness for painting - it helps me cope. When I look at this work however, I am not reminded of issues. I am happy still regardless. Fauvism brings me much inner peace. If you are struggling, I hope my paintings bring you peace as well.
